Microsoft Launches Guardian Agents to Police AI Agents at Work
Microsoft announced on October 19, 2026 that it is extending Project Perception with a new layer called Guardian Agents, plus Dynamic Permissions, Dynamic Agent Risk scoring and Dynamic Conditional Access, to monitor and contain AI agents like Claude Code, OpenAI Codex and GitHub Copilot inside enterprises. CEO Satya Nadella argues trust and control over agents must sit outside the AI model itself, not with the labs that built it. Microsoft Defender's agent discovery now covers 60 local agent types, up from 25.
