What AI Mode actually does
Instead of a normal list of blue links, AI Mode lets you ask a longer, more complex, or layered question — the kind that would normally take three or four separate Google searches to piece together — and get a single, organized answer built on a custom version of Gemini. Google has shipped a steady stream of Gemini updates lately, including a new Gemini 3.8 Flash model.
Now in 10 Indian languages
AI Mode started with English and Hindi, then expanded to Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu — a significant step given how much of India searches in a regional language rather than English day to day.

Google AI Mode's Hindi language capabilities depend on a specialized subword tokenizer optimized for the Devanagari script and code-mixed "Hinglish" queries. Traditional English-centric byte-pair encoding (BPE) tokenizers split Hindi words into 4 to 8 fragmented byte-level tokens per word, drastically inflating inference latency and compute costs. Google's IndicTrans2 vocabulary expands native Devanagari token support, reducing token explosion from 4.2 tokens/word to 1.3 tokens/word.
